The Amazing Schools Project

Building a community through education

A Charity School Project That Empowers A Community

Our goal is to provide basic education to a rural area in Nigeria

Educate

We believe that only education can be the driver to real change. Too many people are leaving the rural areas. We wish to empower the young generation to stay and be able to grow themselves.

Involve

We are involving the entire community in our project - listening to the needs of the people we co-create learning spaces that serve all the needs

Enable

We are a team of dedicated educational professionals who wish to enable the children of this community. Everyone has a right for education and development. Girls education is one of the major goals for our project.

“It takes a village to educate a child” an often quoted African proverb says, but it is also true that educating children will lead to educating the village. For us this very systemic approach is very important. We offered basic education to the children only at first, but then also the adults asked if we could support them. In an area with an illiteracy rate of more than 75% one does not go without the other. And we had to integrate education about education as well: many  members of the community had looked fearful at the project, being concerned about the influence to their  customs, religion and traditions. So we can proudly say: We are educating a village along with its children!

SDG

Our project follows the guidelines of an SDG curriculum developed along the unique needs of our school community.

Development

We are developing step by step, trying to involve the local community in each step as much as possible. This is how we gained trust and acceptance.

The Amazing school project started about two years ago in Dutsen-Wai. It all started from just teaching rural children under a tree, before we moved to a shed. In April 2018 the school moved into a makeshift building. We have grown from a small population of just about 20 students when we first started to about 400 students now -from just one teacher to 5 teachers now.

Who we are

The Amazing school project started about five years ago in Dutsen-Wai.

It all started from just teaching rural children under a tree, before we moved to a shed. In April 2018 the school moved into a makeshift building. We have grown from a small student population of just about 20 students when we first started to about 350 students now -from just one teacher to 8 teachers now.

We are mentored by an experienced Dubai based educational consultant from Guide and Lead in regards to sponsorships, business planning, marketing and most of all educational best practice.

At the moment we are teaching in a make-shift, uncompleted building with no water supply and not even a toilet facility. The building is already too small to cater 350  students.

We have already purchased a piece of land and started building our school. One of four buildings in all is already completed.

Given the needed funding we develop the land using locally available materials in order to minimize costs and also to gain further trust of the local rural community.

We have also completed a well that currently serves a big part of the community with water.
